On May 17, Team Members from the various Businesses gathered at the Odebrecht São Paulo Building to attend the lecture organized by Odebrecht Retirement Fund entitled, “No meu dinheiro mando eu” [I’m the master of my money].

The guest speaker, Marcos Silvestre, an economist specializing in financial education, started the lecture on a very light note by demonstrating the importance of using money well and knowing that “you get what you pay for,” while warning the audience of today’s reduction in purchasing power.

Marcos talked about the importance of staying alert to hidden traps in advertising, inn consumerism, in fast-and-easy credit and in everything else that could lead to a bad purchase, and highlighted a few tips to identify who is really mastering our money.

With a playful approach, Silvestre presented daily situations that could be a consumer trap and showed what was behind each of them to unveil the true intentions behind each “tempting offer.”

Silvestre also presented some innovative attitudes of financial empowerment and offered CLICs* for conscientious and interested consumers to protect their money better in various commercial situations.

Marcos Silvestre closed the lecture with a reflection: “Conscientious consumerism can only be practiced in its essence by consumers who submit themselves to a comprehensive process of financial reeducation by renewing their economic mindset, acquiring instrumental localized knowledge and capturing the gains of financial empowerment. This enables you to make wise decisions as consumers, ensuring the achievement of a balanced, long-lasting, sustainable and solidary prosperity in their lives.”

The lecture is one of the actions organized under the movement “I’m the master of my money” developed by Odebrecht Retirement Fund in partnership with the Brazilian Association of Pension Plans (Abrapp), and aims to debunk apparent advantages in consumptions situations that, in fact, can be pitfalls on the path to sustainable prosperity.

The initiative featured the participation of private pension organizations that adhered to the movement to share experiences and promote the materials, actions and resources developed, helping everyone to achieve a more balanced financial life, not just temporarily, but in order to ensure a healthy financial future.

More than a campaign, we want to propose a true movement of raising awareness on conscientious consumerism,” said Cristiano Verardo, Director of Relationship and Financial Education at Odebrecht Retirement Fund.

    * CLICs – acronym in Portuguese for Localized Instrument Training Knowledge, from the PROFE Methodology.
