With the proposal to connect different realities through a transformative experience, Odebrecht Engineering and Construction and the Norberto Odebrecht Foundation  started the third edition of the VOCÊ volunteer program yesterday (27). The joint initiative promotes professional counseling mentorships and support in building life and career plans between Odebrecht professionals and students from the Rural Family Houses of Baixo Sul da Bahia, partner schools of FNO.

The opening meeting, held virtually, gathered around 100 participants and marked the beginning of a journey that will feature 56 formed pairs – a record number since the program’s launch. “VOCÊ is made by many hands. It is a joy to see it grow,” said Adelcio Menezes de Sousa, program coordinator and head of Partnerships at FNO.

The third edition of VOCÊ will promote mentorships between 56 Odebrecht members and students from FNO’s partner rural schools.

Beyond the numbers, the essence of volunteering, according to Alexandre Moreira Baltar, Superintendent of FNO, lies in the bond established between the young people from the Family Houses and the Odebrecht members. “There is something that unites them and is very present in both contexts: the elements of Our Culture and the teachings of our founder,” he mentioned.

Marcelo Piller, responsible for Engineering and ESG at Odebrecht, emphasizes that this voluntary effort aligns with the most essential values of the Novonor Group. “The dedication of time and experience refers to the Odebrecht Entrepreneurial Technology at its origin. We all have the mission to carry this practice forward,” he comments.

The welcome program included the presentation of the volunteer manual, program guidelines, the first meeting between mentors and mentees, and testimonials from those who have already experienced it. “We work with young people in building their life and career plans. We set goals, outlined strategies, and in the end, we realized that we are people with similar dreams and values, just living in different spaces,” shared Sérgio Pessoa, member of Tenenge and volunteer of the second edition.

According to Aline Pinheiro, director of the CFR-I, VOCÊ is a valuable extension of the training offered in the institutions, which profoundly impacts the students. “Volunteering is a grand moment in these young people’s lives. They are strong teenagers who live a challenging reality in the countryside, and this listening is essential to strengthen their self-esteem,” she says.

With a duration of four months, the third edition of the program will have online meetings between the pairs and will conclude with a culminating event in Baixo Sul da Bahia, celebrating the learnings experienced throughout the journey. “VOCÊ is a success story that challenges us annually. I am very happy to be able to live this story again,” concluded Paquisa Rocha Brandão, leader of Social Responsibility at Odebrecht.
