On April 18 and 20, 2023, A training session on the work-at-height platform (AWP) took place at Enseada Indústria Naval, with the presence of the company’s employees. The purpose of the training was to establish the minimum requirements and protection measures for working at height, involving planning, organization, and execution, in order to ensure the safety and health of the workers involved directly or indirectly with the AWP activity. It also aims to enable the participants to work according to the safety rules in the use of a Lifting Platform.

The training occurred in two stages, theoretical and practical, the latter in the equipment itself, or similar to that which the employee will operate, as recommended in Annex IV of NR-18 of the Ministry of Labor and Employment. The proper use of the personal protection equipment (PPE) required for the operations was also addressed.

The work-at-height platform training complies with the pertinent legislation, which establishes standards and procedures to ensure the safety of workers in activities performed at height. Among the standards applicable to training is Regulatory Standard 35 (NR-35), which establishes the safety measures required to perform work at height and is a prerequisite for AWP training and Regulatory Standard 18 (NR-18), which establishes safety guidelines for activities in the construction industry.

According to Pedro Barbosa, responsible for the QHSE area (Quality, Safety, Environment, and Health) at Enseada: “These events are part of the mandatory training schedule, recommended in the NRs 11, 12, 18, and 34, which our terminal needs to comply and enforce. These are very important trainings, because besides meeting the legal demands, they generate positive impacts for the company as, with the qualification of our operator members, we perform the company’s operational challenges with more efficiency, agility, and safety”.

The work-at-height platform training held at Enseada Indústria Naval is an example of how companies can guarantee the safety of workers who perform activities at height, following the standards and procedures established by legislation. With the training, Enseada’s employees will be able to perform their activities at height in a safe and efficient way, reducing accident risks and ensuring the workers’ health and physical integrity.
