Enseada performs awareness actions on Tree Day
DATE: 09/30/2022
Enseada carried out awareness-raising actions on Tree Day, celebrated annually on September 21, with lectures and activities aimed at elementary school students in the schools surrounding its Terminal. The ecosystem services provided by trees were discussed in a playful and educational way, highlighting from simple shading, through the provision of food and raw materials, as well as serving as shelter for birds and other animals, to the provision of much of the oxygen we breathe and the sequestration of carbon dioxide (CO2), that contribute to mitigate the effects of climate change and global warming.
The importance of trees in protecting the soil and water bodies was also highlighted, as they help to reduce flooding, prevent floods and landslides, avoid erosion and silting up of rivers, and filter the water through the soil, leaving the water bodies cleaner. At the end, pencils with educational messages were distributed so that the children could see in practice two of the products provided by the trees (wood/pencils and latex/rubber).
Eighty-five students from the Municipal Schools Desembargador Oscar Dantas, in Enseada do Paraguaçu, and Professor Valdemar Alves Menezes, in Salinas da Margarida, participated.
This action is part of the scope of Enseada’s actions in the Environmental Education Program – PEA and Social Communication Program – PCS of Operation License Nº 19,900, of January 07, 2020, and Alteration License No. 20.117, of February 14, 2020, issued by the Institute of Environment and Water Resources – INEMA.
