Do you know the story of the root?

Do you know the symbolism behind the root of the Novonor Group? It has a special story. In celebration of the 80th anniversary, let’s remember the origin of this heritage left by the company’s founder:

Many years ago, on a beach on the coast of Bahia, Norberto Odebrecht found an intact tree root. The root was stuck in a rock, surviving outside its natural habitat. Impressed by the plant’s resilience, he saw meaning in this mystery of nature.

“It was taking the shape of the stone to feed itself, which was interesting to me. There was the struggle for survival, so there was the survival of the organization,” said the founder of the Group about his find by the sea.

Therefore, he collected it and adopted it as a symbol to express the efforts of the generations that have passed and will pass through the Group’s history in search of survival, growth, and perpetuity.

The root was displayed for many years at the Culture Center, in the company’s former headquarters in Salvador, and is currently at the Norberto Odebrecht Foundation office.

In 2012, with the extension of the work time honors, the plastic artist Bel Borba was invited to reproduce the image of the root in sculpture. To this day, the replica is given to members when they complete 50 years with the Group and/or in special honors and recognitions.
