Braskem signs contract for the use of reused water in Duque de Caxias
DATE: 03/13/2025
In a significant step to address the challenges of climate change and enhance its competitiveness, Braskem signed a contract with Aegea Saneamento for the supply of reuse water from the population’s sewage. This agreement aims to supply 100% of Braskem’s industrial operation in Duque de Caxias (RJ), ensuring water security for local production.
To make the project feasible, Aegea, through Águas do Rio, will bring forward the arrival of basic sanitation for more than 260,000 residents of Duque de Caxias by three years. Additionally, the environment will also benefit, as the reuse of sewage in industrial production will contribute to the preservation of the Guandu River ecosystem, the main water source for the metropolitan region of the State of Rio de Janeiro. This effort is also part of the environmental recovery plan for Guanabara Bay, a commitment made by Águas do Rio with the State of Rio de Janeiro.
The contract signing was celebrated at an event held last week at the ASSECAMPE headquarters in Duque de Caxias, which was attended by local authorities and representatives from Braskem and Aegea.
Braskem expressed its pride in this advancement, which reinforces its commitment to competitiveness, innovation, and sustainability.
