Braskem Brazilian highlight In CDP Supply Chain ranking
DATE: 02/27/2018
Braskem is one of the world’s top-ranked companies in the CDP’s Global Supply Chain Report, which compiles the companies that best engage their supply chains to adopt new approaches for climate change and water management. Braskem also was placed, for the first time, on the Supplier Water A List and, for the second time, on the Supplier Climate A List.
In 2017, Braskem reached a milestone in supplier engagement and was able to engage 66% of its partners in climate change initiatives and 76% of the global supply chain in water management programs.
“The leadership shown by the A List confirms that Braskem’s participation in the CDP in recent years, by engaging suppliers in sustainability, has been indirectly encouraging companies to take steps to reduce the environmental impacts of their activities. The assessment merely reinforces that we have the capacity not only to reduce our own emissions, but also to influence initiatives in this direction in other companies and industries,” said Gustavo Prisco, Director of Procurement at Braskem.
In addition to being highlighted in supplier engagement, Braskem achieved a feat unprecedented in Brazil’s manufacturing industry by being placed on the CDP Climate A List, which compiles the world’s best listed companies in terms of managing their greenhouse gas emissions.
Braskem’s efforts begin with raising awareness, training people and effective decision-making. The initiatives carried out include implementing training programs in the supply chain when opportunities are identified for reducing emissions and improving water management. Every year, suppliers receive a questionnaire on their strategy with regard to environmental practices. The form also helps to identify potential risks in their operations and to manage them more effectively.
