Odebrecht Receives Social Award in Ghana
DATE: 11/16/2017
For the second consecutive year, Odebrecht Engineering and Construction – Infrastructure in Ghana received the Socially-Responsible Engineering Company Award. The distinction considers practices associated with health, workplace safety, and the environment, implemented through the Business’ projects in the country.
Recent actions and milestones justify the distinction. Periodically, Odebrecht offers members exams designed to help prevent breast and prostate cancer. In 2016, Lots 5 and 6 of the Eastern Highway Corridor, built by the company, reached 5 million hours without time loss accidents. “We offer safety courses and over 30,000 hours of training to ensure a safe work environment for everyone,” said Marcus Viana, Head of Administration and Finances.
For Viana, earning the award for the second consecutive time reflects Odebrecht’s commitment to people. “By transferring knowledge and technology, we contribute toward the African country’s development,” he added.
The award is granted once a year by the Social-Corporate Responsibility Center in partnership with the Ghana Government, Ghana Association of Industries, and Japan International Cooperation Agency in Acra.
