Gávea Station Welcomes Students from the University of Nebraska (USA)
DATE: 07/23/2026
The Gávea Construction Consortium welcomed a group of 16 representatives from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln (UNL), United States, including 12 undergraduate Civil Engineering students, two professors, and two coordinators. The program included an institutional presentation by the Consortium, followed by a Q&A session. The visitors also had the opportunity to go down into the tunnel, where excavation activities are currently underway.
The group had previously visited the Gávea construction site in 2023; however, work was suspended at that time. The visitors showed great interest in the tour, particularly because it gave them the opportunity to experience firsthand a project of this nature, where access is typically highly restricted.
The university’s international visitation program aims to broaden students’ perspectives by giving them the opportunity to experience different cultures, geological conditions, and methodologies from those found in their home country. Before arriving in Rio de Janeiro, the group visited construction projects in Fortaleza, where they observed a building project and toured an asphalt production plant.
