Braskem will now supply its I’m green™ polyethylene, a globally certified plastic made from sugarcane, to the LEGO Group. Already in 2018, the Green Plastic will be used to make LEGO “botanical” elements, such as trees, bushes and leaves for the Danish manufacturer known worldwide for its building bricks.

“This partnership reinforces Braskem’s successful strategy to focus on sustainable and innovative products,” said Gustavo Sergi, Renewable Chemicals Director at Braskem. “Green Plastic is part of Braskem’s renewable products portfolio, which has a robust growth and development strategy for the coming years.”

Today, Braskem’s Green Plastic is used by over 150 brands in Europe, United States, Asia, Africa and South America. The highly versatile resin is used to make packaging for products ranging from food to personal care products, as well as more durable goods such as chairs and vases.

The world’s first renewable polyethylene to be produced on an industrial scale, Braskem’s I’m green™ plastic has been made since 2010 at Triunfo Petrochemical Complex in Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil, which is the world’s largest industrial plant producing ethylene made from ethanol, with production capacity of 200,000 tons/year.
