Enseada Indústria Naval has taken another step in its commitment to strengthening traditional surrounding communities by supporting the quilombola certification process of the Pijuru and Capanema communities, located in Maragogipe/BA. On July 12, 2025, a meeting was held at the headquarters of the Association of Shellfish Gatherers and Quilombolas of Pijuru, with the aim of drafting the Self-Definition Minutes and the necessary documentation to request official recognition as a Quilombola Community from the Palmares Cultural Foundation.

The initiative is being carried out with the support of a specialized consultancy hired by Enseada, which has been guiding the communities through the procedures outlined in Federal Decree No. 4.887/2003 and Ordinance No. 98/2007 of the Palmares Cultural Foundation. The official certification, based on the principle of self-declaration, is essential for communities to access specific public policies, strengthen their cultural identity, and ensure protection of their territories.

The meeting was attended by 45 people, including residents and local leaders, and was marked by productive discussions about the rights of quilombo-descendant communities. One of the most significant moments was the unanimous approval of the proposal to include the Capanema community in the certification process, which was initially prepared only in the name of Pijuru, thereby expanding recognition and strengthening the local collective.

By supporting this process, Enseada contributes to the promotion of social justice and the official recognition of communities that keep ancestral traditions and historically marginalized ways of life alive. Valuing quilombola identity is an important step toward building a more equitable future in the territory where the company operates.
