In this month in which World Oral Health Day is celebrated (20/3), Horiens held a live event to support of its corporate personal insurance clients to expand knowledge on this topic, which is so important for health as a whole.
The live was held on 19/3, with the participation of dentist Larrosier Ortiz and dozens of policyholders from various companies, who followed the meeting live. After the event, the live could also be shared with dependents and family members
In addition to this action, Horiens’ Personal Insurance team had the opportunity to promote an action focused on the oral health of the members of its client, ICN – Itaguaí Construções Navais. The initiative was supported by Odontoprev and took place on March 18, 19 and 20 in Rio de Janeiro, helping to reinforce the commitment of policyholders to prevention.
“Oral health is very important for people’s physical and emotional health. By holding meetings like these with our clients’ beneficiaries, our aim is to provide qualified information that contributes to good health management by companies and their policyholders,” says Laudelino Soares, director of People Insurance at Horiens.
Check out the main orientations for a healthy mouth highlighted in the actions carried out by Horiens:
- Start with your tongue: when you wake up, remove the soap that remains on your tongue with a scraper found in most pharmacies. This helps maintain the balance of the oral microbiome, reducing bad breath and the risk of other problems.
- Healthy gums don’t bleed: flossing should not cause bleeding. If this happens, reinforce cleaning with proper brushing and flossing and, if the problem persists, go to the dentist as soon as possible. Bacterial plaque is one of the factors causing bleeding and the dentist will apply procedures to remove it.
- Periodontitis, a warning sign: periodontitis is the evolution of untreated gingivitis and is linked to serious health problems. The periodontium acts to anchor the teeth and helps form a barrier to prevent bacteria from entering other systems of the body. Untreated periodontitis is associated with cardiovascular disease, diabetes and even Alzheimer’s.
- Caries is serious: caries is mainly caused by foods such as sugar and carbohydrates. A few minutes after eating, no matter what time of day it is: brush your teeth, as the residue feeds the bacteria! If it develops, caries can cause pain and even tooth loss.
- Oral health is also a child’s concern: children are an easy target for cavities, so guardians should personally do at least the last brushing of the day on children’s teeth, especially up to around 7 years old. Take advantage of this time to teach them the correct way and talk to them about the importance of a healthy mouth.
- If you’re going to brush, do it right: a good brushing lasts around 2 minutes, going over all areas of the mouth with gentle, short strokes. Do this calmly and attentively. Floss all your teeth, at least in the evening, before going to bed.
- Use a suitable toothbrush: choose a version with soft bristles and replace it every three months. Store your toothbrush upright in a cupboard to protect it more effectively. Don’t use a protective cap on a daily basis (reserve it for when you’re away from home), as a humid environment encourages the proliferation of bacteria and fungi.
- See a dentist regularly: remember to tell your dentist about any health problems or medication you are taking, because your mouth is directly linked to your body as a whole. Some medications, such as certain types of antidepressants, can cause dry mouth, impacting oral health if they are not properly treated by the dentist.
