Barra do Dande Ocean Terminal was awarded Project of the Year 2023 during the Annual Meeting

Started in November 2022, the complex job of transporting 34 LPG (Liquefied Petroleum Gas) bullets between China and the Barra do Dande Ocean Terminal (Terminal Oceânico de Barra do Dande – TOBD) in Angola was successfully completed on December 8.

The bullets are LPG tanks 72 meters long (equivalent to a 25-storey building), eight meters in diameter, weighing 420 tons. Each one has a storage capacity of 3,000 m³, which at the end of the project will give the country a storage capacity of 102,000 m³ of LPG.

The decision to produce the equipment in China made it possible to reduce the project’s delivery time by six months. Manufacturing, transporting and installing these structures required planning and logistics. Transportation studies were carried out, taking into account weather conditions, wave peaks during the route, alternative plans and, above all, the stability of the pressure vessels. Companies from Angola, Brazil, England and China were involved in this process.

“I would like to highlight the excellence of our engineers, who dedicated themselves for months on end so that this complex work could be completed with great success, obtaining the recognition of our Client, Sonangol, to which I thank for all the trust placed in us and in this engineering solution, as well as for having contributed intensely with their teams to make the proposed program feasible. The same gratitude go to Dar Handasar inspection team, which participated fully in the activities, to Sonils team, which provided all the technical support for the loading and unloading of the bullets at the port of Luanda, in addition to the effective high-quality technical support provided by Tenenge team,” said Marcus Azeredo, Managing Director of OEC in Africa.
