Parliamentary delegation visits Enseada shipyard
DATE: 08/24/2023
On the 18th of August, a delegation of parliamentarians conducted a technical visit to the Enseada shipyard, located in the municipality of Maragogipe, in the Bahian Recôncavo. In attendance were auditors from the Federal Court of Accounts, mayors, deputies, councillors, and representatives of trade associations related to the naval sector, totaling about 60 people.
At the peak of its operations, Enseada generated over 7,500 direct jobs, a number that dropped to 50 positions from 2014 onwards. The interruption of activities at the venture affected various municipalities in the region, which had recorded the opening of around 7,000 businesses due to the prospects brought by the shipyard, in sectors such as food, transportation, and tourism.
The visit was the result of a request by Federal Deputy Jorge Solla, who reported being optimistic about the announcement of the new PAC (Growth Acceleration Program). The President of Enseada, Ricardo Ricardi, made a presentation to the delegation, in which he highlighted the operational capacity of the shipyard. “We are ready to produce up to five ships per year, with skilled personnel and state-of-the-art equipment,” he stated.
By the end of this year, the Mixed Parliamentary Front in Defense of the Naval Industry is expected to produce a report for the Federal Government with the aim of resuming investments in the sector, which once generated around 100,000 direct jobs in the country and today operates well below its installed capacity.
