Fernando Chein, director of New Businesses and Investments in Energy at OEC, was one of the speakers at the XI Seminar on Energy – Opportunities in the Electricity Sector, held in Cuiabá (MT), on the 8th, 9th and 10th of this month. The purpose of the event was to discuss new business models for the production and expansion of sustainable energy sources, balancing the increased participation of these sources in the Brazilian electricity matrix and the country’s energy security.

The event was organized by Sindenergia-MT (Mato Grosso’s Union of Construction, Generation, Transmission and Distribution of Electric Energy and Gas) and was attended by experts from the sector, professionals from generating companies, investors, construction companies, as well as representatives of government bodies such as EPE (Energy Research Company), Aneel (National Electric Energy Agency) and ONS (National Electric System Operator).

Chein spoke on the theme “Base Energy for Sustainable Growth”, bringing relevant data and suggestions with a technical basis on how to increase the country’s energy self-sufficiency and ensure the energy transition, in Mato Grosso and in Brazil. For him, this should occur through the correct and robust development of wind and solar sources, including distributed generation. He states that to ensure growth and, consequently, the sustainable development of the country, it is necessary to continue investing in basic energies. “Renewable-based energy, which Brazil has great potential for, are hydroelectric plants, ventures that generate investments, including socio-environmental ones, which provide jobs and bring quality of life to the population”, he says.

OEC has in its portfolio 88 of these projects implemented in several countries that, together, generate more than 72 GW of power, a volume that made it be appointed for several years as the largest builder of hydroelectric power plants in the world.
