Four conventional submarines and one nuclear-powered submarine are being built by Itaguaí Construções Navais for the Brazilian Navy

The innovation solutions used in one of the most important naval construction works in the country, the Brazilian Navy’s Prosub (Submarine Development Program), were in focus in the latest episode of the podcast Conexão OEC, available on Spotify and on YouTube. To tell this story, the program brings the project’s administrative and supply coordinator, Pedro Henrique Sá, from OEC – Engineering and Construction. The company is responsible for the construction of the shipyard and naval base that occupy an area of 900,000 square meters, of which more than 80% is above water.

In the Novonor group for 17 years, Sá highlights the business innovation behind the venture and how this has become a case study in the heavy construction sector.

The member needed to look for startups to support the project that meet the market and information security needs. OEC – Engenharia e Construção relied on the startup ecosystem even to organize the charter bus system for the members working at the operations center, in Itajaí (RJ).

“Bus control has always been a sensitive and difficult activity to control. Currently, we have more than 20 vehicles spread throughout the metropolitan region of Rio de Janeiro. We know where each bus is and who is on it. The members who are at home can go to the point when the bus passes by, which has brought more comfort and safety to the teams,” explains Sá.

    Brazil-France Partnership

In September 2022, OEC – Engenharia e Construção and the French Naval Group, companies that form Itaguaí Construções Navais (ICN), delivered the first submarine to the Brazilian Navy. Named Riachuelo (S40), the equipment is the first submarine of the Brazilian Navy built in the country. The technology used in the construction is the result of a partnership between Brazil and France. OEC – Engineering and Construction was selected for the program because of its extensive experience in highly complex projects.

    OEC IN

The podcast is part of the OEC IN ecosystem, an OEC – Engineering and Construction initiative aimed at designing solutions for the challenges faced at the company’s construction sites and offices. It was structured on the basis of four aspects: developing an internal culture focused on mobilization and engagement for Innovation; connect OEC to open innovation; provide technical support in technological upgrading, knowledge management, and digital transformation processes; and position the construction company as a protagonist that fosters and integrates innovation in its industry.

The program is published monthly and its content is made available on the company’s channels on Spotify and Youtube. To learn more about OEC – Engineering and Construction innovation program or sign up for the newsletter, please visit: https://www.oec-eng.com/pt-br/quem-somos/inovacao
