A new destination for 60t of recycled plastic every year

Initiative is from Braskem?s Wecycle platform, whose mission is to foster businesses that value plastic waste throughout their production chain

Organizer boxes made of 100% recycled plastic: this new product will soon hit the shelves, thanks to a partnership between Braskem and Martiplast, from the domestic utilities segment, and Leroy Merlin, one of the biggest chain stores in the construction material market.

This is an initiative of Braskem’s Wecycle platform, whose mission is to foster businesses that value plastic waste throughout their production chain. Through the platform, 60 tons of recycled material could be destined every year for sale exclusively through Leroy Merlin.

“The growth in recycling will further contribute to the development and growth of the plastic industry. The partnership between Braskem, Martiplast and Leroy Merlin is another important initiative that is capable of impacting the market and raising consumer awareness,” said Fabiana Quiroga, Head of Recycling & the Wecycle Platform at Braskem.

How it will work

In this initiative that brings together the industry players, Braskem will supply recycled polypropylene for use in the brand of Martiplast, which will produce an exclusive line of organizer boxes that will be sold at Leroy Merlin’s 41 stores and e-commerce operation in Brazil. Braskem’s recycled polypropylene comes from the big bags used by the company to transport and handle its resins.

At the stores, the product can be identified by the Wecycle Platform and Martiplast seals. Apart from the boxes, there is the possibility of the partnership between the brands expanding to create other products that help organizing and decorating homes.
