Last Thursday, July 10, the Norberto Odebrecht Foundation  released its 2024 Annual Report, which highlights the main results of a year marked by the consolidation and expansion of the Program for Integrated and Sustainable Development and Growth(PDCIS) . In 2024, the program directly and indirectly impacted nearly 35,000 people across 216 communities in 20 municipalities in Bahia and Rio de Janeiro.

Using indicators, the document shows how the Program has promoted social, economic, and environmental progress in the communities that it serves, with actions aimed at poverty reduction, environmental protection, and improved quality of life in rural areas. In 2024, the initiative supported the planting of 68,000 trees, the recovery of 10 springs, and the production of 1,426 tons of food, resulting in an average monthly income increase of R$ 1,836.38 for beneficiaries. Additionally, 95 septic tanks and 119 water storage and treatment kits were installed on their properties.

“Families served remain in rural areas, earn higher incomes, preserve more natural resources, and show growing engagement in their communities. By communicating our performance, we also promote transparency regarding the impacts generated, initiatives undertaken, and commitments made with all stakeholders,” says Alexandre Baltar, the Foundation´s superintendent.

One of the biggest qualities of the Report is the Beneficiary Journeys, which show, through comparative data over the years, how  the Program expands opportunities and concretely transforms lives. One example is Naiele Santana Damasceno, a recent graduate of the “Casa Familiar Rural de Igrapiúna” (CFR-I), a partner institution in the program’s implementation. With the school’s support, she launched cocoa, peach palm, and beekeeping projects on the property where she lives with her parents. The extra income, equivalent to two minimum wages per month, enabled the family to buy their first car. For Naiele, those who attend a PDCIS partner institution “don’t just learn for themselves, but to transform the entire territory together,” she says.

Naiele’s journey as a PDCIS beneficiary is one of four presented in the Norberto Odebrecht Foundation’s 2024 Annual Report.

Territorial Expansion Marks New Phase of PDCIS

In 2024, PDCIS completed its first replication in a new territory, in the district of Sana (RJ). The project’s results demonstrated the potential for replicating the developed social technologies: there was crop diversification, increased productivity, and a R$ 3,384.78 increase in the average income of the family farmers served. That same year, the Foundation signed a memorandum of understanding with Odebrecht Engineering & Construction Angola and the Agrarian Development Support Fund for the international expansion of the program in the African country. “It will be an opportunity to learn and collaborate with new territories, joining forces with our partners through a tested model with proven impacts,” Baltar adds.

The 2024 Annual Report also highlights the strengthening of the Foundation’s corporate volunteer initiatives in partnership with Novonor Group companies, which mobilized 163 participants, held 170 mentoring sessions, and totaled over 6,000 hours of volunteer work; the 2024 Tribute to the Future campaign, which raised R$ 4.5 million to continue educational actions in the Family Homes of the  South of Bahia; and the launch of the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DE&I) Guide and the Systematization of Our Culture applied to PDCIS, publications that reaffirm the institutional commitment to valuing people, communities, and regions as a whole.
