  • Blue November | The color has changed, but the solution is still the same: prevention!

The Blue November campaign comes to reinforce the care for men’s health and the importance of early diagnosis, especially of prostate cancer, the second most common among them.

Did you know that in Brazil alone, a man dies every 38 minutes due to prostate cancer? Currently, this is the second leading cause of death among the Brazilian male population, according to the National Cancer Institute – Inca.

Even with the high mortality rate, little is said about prevention. Prejudice and taboo are still the great villains in the fight against prostate cancer, a worrisome scenario, since the simple initiative of doing the preventive exams increases the chances of cure by 90%.

“Detecting diseases at an early stage can be the difference in men’s health and quality of life. It is very important to do the clinical follow-up annually, with routine laboratory tests, abdominal, prostate and chest imaging tests,” advises Dr. Antônio Eduardo Amorim. For him, these procedures are also essential to prevent other health problems, such as coronary heart disease and metabolic disorders – obesity, diabetes, and dyslipidemia, for example.

If before there was low demand for preventive examinations, with the pandemic this behavior worsened and the preventive health care went to the bottom of the list of priorities: “There was a reduction in the demand for routine exams, such as prostate evaluation, which can impact the early detection of these diseases”, reports Dr. Antônio.

As a way to further encourage self-care, SulAmérica and Bradesco, in partnership with the company X and Horiens, make available the PSA – indicated for men aged 50, and older or those with family history starting at age 45 – and other exams related to men’s health at no co-payment during this month.

In order to apply, simply contact your company’s Health department, consult a physician you trust, or use the telemedicine in the digital channels offered by the insurance company.
This benefit is valid for members and dependents in the laboratories of the Bradesco and SulAmérica health plans’ referenced network, for exams performed until November 30, 2021.

Stay Vigilant | Breast Cancer in Men

In recent years, the disease has become a more prevalent diagnosis among men and is growing. According to INCA, although it is still 1% among the diagnosis that affects men, it is a valid warning to do the preventive exams.
In addition to prevention and keeping the check-ups up to date, it is very important to adopt a healthy lifestyle, both physically and psychologically. It is worth remembering that the Emotional Health Program, offered by Bradesco and SulAmérica in partnership with Horiens, is available all year round.

Share this cause! In the search for self-care and a healthier routine, support is essential. “The family can be a determining factor when it comes to visiting the doctor and taking exams. Your encouragement can make the difference!”, adds Dr. Antônio.
