On July 20th and 21st, the IIRSA North project received the first visit of a group of Mechanical Engineering and Electrical Engineering students from University of Piura, Peru. The students visited the Olmos Project’s Prensa de Limón facilities, the Lamparan Industrial Unit, and the works being carried out by OEC on the IIRSA North Highway. The initiative is part of the Knowledge Route Program (Route “C”) that is being implemented in the IIRSA North project, carried out by OEC.

At the beginning of the visit, the Contract Manager, Ricardo Paredes, introduced his work team, shared his life experience with the students, and spoke about the opportunity given to young people to start their careers in any of the company’s areas.

“The only way to grow professionally in this company is to train new leaders. A leader who trains someone better than him is very valuable to us”, commented Ricardo, generating an impact on the students, who learned firsthand about OEC’s technical capacity and the quality assurance of the works.

“We are very grateful. In recent years, with safety regulations, students’ access to companies and work on construction sites has been limited. We are happy with this opening because it allows the interaction of the work with the students favoring a better development of learning,” said Jorge Yaksetig, professor of the Mechanical Engineering Program at UDEP.

About the experience, Cecilia Cardoza, a student of the course commented: “It has been very meaningful. I like the representation they have and plan to have with women in engineering, there are very good values and plans with the environment and diversity, a very interesting profile for all of us because it complements the values of the university.”

The Route “C” Program aims to showcase the technical capability of the site through technological exchange with engineering universities, making monthly visits to construction sites, and participating in various conferences on this topic.
